As we work through the Learn & Play program, we feel it’s important to point out that CML, besides supporting participation in this program, is also working to incorporate Web 2.0 tools to enhance the user experience on our web site. Earlier this year, the Power Tools Page was launched. The Power Tools Page encourages customer feedback while using Web 2.0 technologies to make online access to the library easier. So far, two tools have been created, one of which you may be familiar with, the Library Toolbar, along with a Catalog Plugin.
Two other features on the Power Tools Page are the technology blog, Tooling Around, and the Tool Box, where we have a list of some well-used Web 2.0 tools, many of which we have covered in Learn & Play.
Discovery Exercise:
- This Discovery Exercise is easy! As you look through the Power Tools Page, try out some of the links in the Tool Box that we haven’t covered in Learn & Play. If you’re at home, try downloading the Library Toolbar or the Catalog Plugin. Or, read the blog, Tooling Around, and leave a comment. Create a blog post about whatever element of the page you discovered and then enter that post’s URL in the Tracking Log.
That’s it! I told you this thing was easy!
HI-How do you get to the ‘Tooling Around’ blog from the Cml home page?
Hi peacheslarue,
When I looked at the Power Tools page, there was a “Tooling Around” box right at the top. Today’s was about gmail. I just clicked “Join the Discussion” link and was taken to the blog.
I’ll add the link I copied and pasted from the blog.

I was so impressed with what we’re doing. I hadn’t looked at it until today…Wow…cool!
I some how could not post a comment on CML’s own Tool Box page. I was trying to post the comment from home. I have posted comments on Learn and play from home. I donot know what is the trick for doing so on Power Tool Page.
WOW I didn’t realize what wonderful tools we had available through the website. Good going CML.
