Hi, everyone! How are you all doing? Are you ready for Week 9? I made an executive decision and decided to break up the remaining “things” even more.
So, instead of having four “things” to do for Week 9, you’ve only got two! This means we’ve added a Week 10 so that we can spread the goodness of Learn & Play out even more. Doesn’t that feel better? It sure does! (And don’t forget, each week is still two weeks long, since we’re still manipulating time…)
This week, yours truly is in Monterey, California, for the 2008 Internet Librarian Conference! It’s a great opportunity to learn more about Web 2.0 tools and how they relate to libraries. My colleague, Sam Davis (you know, The Wizard), and I will be giving a presentation on Monday about our experiences implementing Web 2.0 technologies into our web site. We’re going to talk about Learn & Play and the Power Tools Page, and many of the other great things CML is doing! And it all fits in perfectly with what we are doing by participating in Learn & Play!
Throughout the conference, Helene, Sam and I will be Twittering about the neat things we’re doing and hearing, so if you’re following one or all of us, you can stay connected to the updates.
And let’s not forget to recognize all the great work that CML staff are doing with Learn & Play! I hope the extra time will help because I don’t want you stressing about it!
I know some of you still feel overwhelmed. If you do, please, please, please let someone know. Find a L&P guru at your location or a different location. Call or email someone on the Learn & Play Team (Gerald Schwab, John Shannon, Tammy Lake, Sam Davis or me) and we will do our best to get you the help you need. If you have something you’d like to get off your chest and on video, let Gerald or me know and we’ll come film you talking about your experience. Remember, that’s what is key: your experience. Even if you don’t like one of the “things,” that’s okay! It’s all about learning, experimenting and trying something new. You never know what might come out of it!
Have a great time with the “things” for this next set of weeks: YouTube and podcasting! I’ll see you all next week!
THANKS! I sometimes get close to caught up and then get discouraged when too many more things pop up to be done. Each one is now taking me more time than 1/2 hour to really explore and learn.
One tip is that I copy the discovery exercise/questions into a Word doc and work my my blog entry in between other work items or can send it to and from home (I guess if I used a google doc, it would also be on the web). Then when I’m ready to post it, I do it from CML so I can immediately put my permanent link into the tracker. Way more satifying to me to do it that way.

Saw the posting about the presentation Joy and Sam did at the conference on the Librarian in Black blog. (Thanks to Learn & Play I subscribed to it.) What fun to see “our” people blogged about!
