Recording progress for CML staff in the Learn & Play Tracking Log found on CMLsi is soooo easy! For the first week, you only need to click “completed” for thing #1 and #2. Beginning the second week, it’s as simple as copying and pasting.
Directions for registering your blog will be covered in the directions for the second week for thing #4.
Once you start recording your discoveries through your own blog, you will need to check-off the item and enter the permanent link to the individual blog post that covers the exercise or “thing” in the tracking log.
Depending upon the blog template that you selected, the “permanent link” for each individual post can be found either through the post’s title or through a link in the post’s footer area that contains the date.
To record progress for an individual item in the Tracking Log:
- Click on the permanent link for the individual post.Example: Here is where you would find the permanent link for this sample blog post:

Click on this link to see actual post. - Select the “permanent link” URL from the address bar at the top of your browser and right click. Select Copy.
- Log into the Learn & Play Tracking Log on CMLsi and locate the item number for the “thing” that you’ve just completed.
- Right click on the field to enter the URL and select Paste. Here’s how you would record it in the L&P Log:

Click on image to see it at actual size..
See, it’s as easy and copy and paste! To keep up with recording your progress, I would suggest that you make a habit of recording your progress weekly.
PS: If you’re not a CML staff member, you can follow along as well. Just use the list discovery items found on the 43 Things website to record your progress. Alas, I’m sorry that I can’t include any flash drives or a laptop as incentives. For you, I hope just the fun of following along is enough.
I couldn’t get the attachments to the 7 1/2 habits to either open or print. Are they really there?

Florence… the files will have to be downloaded into Word in order to be viewed. However, we are going to make them available from the blog here very soon as PDFs, so that should make it easy to view them.
I found that if you hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the appropriate links to download the attachments (including when you save it..) it should override whatever is blocking users from downloading the content..
Wow, what an excellent tip, librarygirl15! I love how the CTRL key and the ALT key are awesome magical shortcuts that make things so much easier sometimes. Thanks for sharing!

OK, wait, I figured out how to copy my bloglines URL finally, but now the tracking log won’t accept it. I keep getting a message about needing a valid URL>
Would you kindly check my attempt at registration? I am not listed as a participant.
Thanks,
Ellen
Hi, Ellen,
I have tried to link your blog several times, but the URL is invalid. In the Tracking Log you have the URL: http://www.ellen’sblog.com/, which doesn’t seem right because of the apostrophe. I have tried removing the apostrophe, but it still will not link. Can you double check the URL and send it to me again? Once you do, I can add you to the Participants’ List. Thanks!
I completed the 23 things but, before the midnight of the December 2nd. But wasn’t able to record them in the track your progress.
Don’t worry, Jerry, I caught it! I saw that you registered on the wiki but it was almost 9 by the time I approved it. So I went and looked at your blog and saw that you had completed a posting for your 23rd Thing so I added you to the list! You’re in!
