“Sandbox” is the term that wikis often use to describe the area of the website that should be used for pure play. For this discovery and exploration exercise, we’ve set up a whole Learn & Play @CML Favorites wiki* that’s for nothing but play!
For this exercise, you are asked to add an entry or two to the Learn & Play @CML wiki. The theme of this wiki is simply “Favorites”: Favorite books, favorite vacation spots, favorite restaurants, favorite anything… all you need to do is play and add your thoughts. To mark your experience with this site, you should add your blog to the Favorite Blogs page.

Discovery Exercise:
- Access the Learn & Play @CML wiki and create a login account for yourself.
- Add your blog to the Favorite Blogs page. That’s how we’ll know that you’ve been there. It’s easy to do! With the WSYSIWYG editor in PBWiki, you can add links just by clicking on the “Edit” tab and then using the “Insert/Add Link” button. Be sure to choose “URL” when adding your link and not “PBWiki page,” which is the default.
- As always, create a post in your blog about the experience and then enter the URL for that post in the Tracking Log.
- OPTIONAL: Add a favorite or two to a few other pages (Favorite books, favorite vacation spot, etc). And, if you feel up to the challenge, you might even want to create a separate page for a book review or short travel essay and link up to that. 🙂
* NOTE: The Learn & Play @CML Wiki was created using the free version of PBWiki, a tool that lets you create webpages that anyone can edit.
Is anyone else as confused as I am about how to post anything on the Learn & Play @CML wiki?
Nevermind…figured it out.
Could you share how you were able to login, then add anything? I have tried again and again to get something added and nothing’s worked.

Was I supposed to ask permission to join the CML wiki or add my own? Is permission granted right away, or will I have to wait awhile?
I’m not getting an Edit tab to click on, so I can’t do anything in this wiki.
This is poorly explained. The UI isn’t as simple as Wikipedia. Logging into the Wiki is different from loging into pbwiki. Logging into pbwiki didn’t give me an “edit” tab. I am still trying to figure this out
This still isn’t working. The edit button, after three logins, now has appeared, but is asking me to request access, not asking to log into the wiki.
I’m encountering the same thing Justin is…help!
I had the same experience as Justin. I already had gotten an open ID from using tweetfeed and managed to access the wiki using that id. Then, there was no edit tab and the site had me request access.
That edit tab wasn’t there the other day. However it took me to the same page I came to the other day. I requested access 2 or 3 days ago and I still haven’t heard anything! Sounds like I’m not the only one not having any luck with Thing #16.
Yep!
I’ve used PBwikis before, and the administrator has to grant access before people can modify the wiki. Some wikis are modifyable by anyone, this particular one only can be modifyed by people who have been granted permission. So hurry up and grant us permission!

It looks like #16 has been a problem for many of us… Can we get a bye for this one? I visited it today, and noticed that there were some that were able to access and edit the page. I requested access once more, to no avail.

We’ve worked hard to correct the problem. Tammy Lake will be able to grant access but we’re creating a generic login and password for staff. Thanks for your patience!
How do we know if we did this task right? I was very confused 🙂
Thanks Joy for working so hard to get our things working. I know it has to be quite a task since there is so much happening.
Has this generic login/password been posted somewhere for staff? Help…I’m lost.
Jayne,
You can request access to the Learn and Play wiki:
1.going to PBwiki
2. Entering Learnandplay in the Go to Wiki field
3. Next, click Request Access
4. Enter your CML e-mail address
You will then have access with your e-mail. We are still working on the generic accounts.
Thanks

I am web 2.0 savvy.. at least I think so, but the wiki edit was a little unclear.. a pic of the link button icon woulda been helpful for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, mediamary! When I prepare future “things,” I’ll keep this in mind! 🙂
For some reason, I am not a fan of the wiki. I did blogs, websites, etc. Just can’t get into wiki’s.
I could use this and see my branch maybe using it.
