Hi, everyone, how’s it going? Can you believe how close we are to the END of the 23 Things?!? This is the next-to-last Thing, and the last time in the program that you’ll have to create yet another username and password! 😉
Well, gerald2.0 and I were having trouble with the MOLDI site last night, but I’m hoping things are okay today. If you have problems with any of the links, I apologize.
So we all love books, but how do you feel about eBooks? More importantly, how do you feel about digital books, music, and movies? Digital media is gaining in popularity because of the convenience and portability. We’re going to take a look at the Mid-Ohio Library Digital Initiative (MOLDI) (yeah, I know, horrible acronym, but great service), and download some digital media!
You can access MOLDI from the CML homepage, or you can get to it via the Library Toolbar, for those saavy folks who have downloaded it already. 😉 To login to the MOLDI site, you can click on “My Digital Account” at the top. You will be prompted to choose your library and then enter your library card number. Easy! 🙂
For this discovery exercise, you merely need to familiarize yourself a bit with the structure of MOLDI‘s Downloadable eBooks site and get an idea of the types of titles you can find here. Take a look around and locate a few titles of interest.
Discovery Resources:
Download Digital Media Guided Tour* – this tutorial covers the downloading process for MOLDI audiobooks. The link to this tutorial can be found on the MOLDI homepage, here:
Discovery Exercise:
- Login to MOLDI by accessing MOLDI through the CML web site (lower right-hand corner of the homepage), or, for those of you who have downloaded the Library Toolbar, just click on the link in the drop-down menu in the toolbar. Note: If you’re not a member of CML staff or don’t have a CML library card, full access to MOLDI may not be available.
- Click on the Browse eBooks link, or whatever type of media you wish, and explore some of the many titles.
- Create a blog post about your findings. Did you locate a title that you might want to try out and download?
OPTIONAL: Try downloading a title from the MOLDI. You don’t have to have a portable player to listen to audiobooks, you can also listen to it from a computer!
And, remember, starting November 10th, MOLDI will be compatible with iPods!!! 😀
